At-Home Black & White Portraits with Millie and her Parents, Brisson & Parker
When Brisson and Parker reached out about a session with their beloved pup, Millie, they had a very specific vision in mind. The three of them had recently commissioned an artist to create a black-and-white portrait accented with colorful butterflies, a piece of art that would hang proudly in their home. To complement that, they wanted photographs that felt just as timeless: simple, clean, and elevated in taste.
To bring this to life, I visited their home in Raleigh, NC, where we transformed a room into a minimalist studio. Using just a white backdrop and a single light source, we stripped away all distractions — allowing their bond with Millie to take center stage.
There’s something striking about pairing simplicity with emotion. Without elaborate props or scenery, every glance, every touch, and every detail between them became more powerful. Millie’s soft curls, Brisson’s playful affection, Parker’s steady presence — all these moments turned into quiet, elegant portraits that reflect who they are as a family.
The result? A series of black-and-white images that feel classic yet deeply personal. These aren’t just photos; they’re heirloom-worthy keepsakes that honor the little family they’ve built together — and, of course, Millie’s starring role within it.
Sometimes, the most elevated portraits are born from the simplest approach.
