Blossom and Bone Florist

Step into the studio space of vibrant blooms and artistic imagination as we unveil the ethereal beauty of Blossom and Bone Florist. Set in downtown Durham, NC, this local treasure is a haven of floral artistry that is beyond compare.

The Artistry of Floral Creations

At Blossom and Bone, floral arrangements are not simply arrangements; they are masterpieces crafted with meticulous care and attention to detail. The florists at this studio understand that each flower holds its own unique beauty and character, and they skillfully blend different blooms to create compositions that are both harmonious and imaginative. From vibrant bouquets bursting with life to delicate floral wreaths that evoke a sense of serenity, every creation is a testament to the artistry that Blossom and Bone brings to the world of floristry.

Behind every breathtaking arrangement lies a deep understanding of color, texture, and form. The skilled florists at Blossom and Bone study each individual flower, taking note of its shape, size, and petal structure. They then use their expertise to pair flowers in unexpected ways, creating captivating contrasts and harmonies. Whether it's the juxtaposition of velvety red roses against the softness of white peonies or the interplay of delicate daisies with the boldness of sunflowers, these compositions are a testament to the artistry and creativity that Blossom and Bone infuses into their floral designs.

But it's not just the flowers themselves that make Blossom and Bone's creations truly remarkable. The team also pays careful attention to the vessels and containers that hold their floral arrangements. Each vase, pot, or basket is chosen with intention, considering its shape, material, and aesthetic appeal. From vintage-inspired pitchers to sleek modern vases, these vessels serve as an extension of the artistic vision, providing a complementary backdrop to the stunning blooms they hold.

Throughout the creative process, the florists at Blossom and Bone approach their craft with an unwavering dedication to quality and innovation. They constantly push the boundaries of traditional floristry, experimenting with unconventional color palettes, unique flower combinations, and unexpected design elements. This commitment to pushing artistic boundaries is what sets Blossom and Bone apart, ensuring that each floral creation is a true work of art.

The artistry behind Blossom and Bone's floral creations is a testament to the passion and creativity that permeate every aspect of this whimsical floral studio. By combining their deep understanding of flowers, an eye for aesthetics, and a commitment to pushing creative boundaries, Blossom and Bone creates floral designs that not only capture the essence of nature but also ignite the imagination of all who encounter them.

Capturing the Essence: The Photographer's Perspective

Behind every stunning photograph of Blossom and Bone's floral creations lies the artistry and vision of the photographer. With an understanding of the delicate balance between light and shadow, angles and composition, the photographer plays a pivotal role in bringing the essence of these whimsical designs to life.

To capture the true beauty of Blossom and Bone's floral arrangements, the photographer must first immerse themselves in the story behind each creation. Whether it's a bouquet inspired by a romantic sonnet or an intricate centerpiece designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia, the photographer takes the time to understand the sentiment and message that the flowers convey.

With this understanding, the photographer, Nikki, carefully selects the backdrop and lighting that will best complement the flowers, setting the stage for a captivating visual narrative. They experiment with different angles, striving to find the perfect perspective that will showcase the unique features and textures of each blossom. Through their lens, they seek to capture the intricate details that make these floral arrangements so captivating: the softness of a petal, the vibrant colors, the graceful curves.

The photographer's work doesn't end with the click of the shutter, though. In the editing room, they take the time to refine the images, enhancing the colors and fine-tuning the details to ensure that the final photographs are a true representation of the florist's artistry. Their meticulous attention to detail ensures that the photographs not only showcase the flowers but also evoke the same emotional connection that one would feel when standing in the presence of these floral wonders.

In essence, the photographer's perspective is essential in capturing the true essence of Blossom and Bone. Through their artistry and technical skill, they transform floral arrangements into captivating visual stories. With each photograph, they invite viewers to step into a world where whimsy and beauty collide, where nature's delicate creations are celebrated and immortalized. The photographer's work is a testament to the magic that Blossom and Bone brings to life, and an invitation for all to immerse themselves in this breathtaking floral wonderland.,

We Made The Cover of Heart of NC Weddings Magazine!

The sun rises over the rolling hills of The Meadows at Firefly Farm Preserve on a warm September morning. In the air, the smell of a North Carolina summer sets the scene for a day of beauty, creativity, and wonder.

“The general vibe was that of imagination. Everyone was eager to try on all of the apparel, have their hair and makeup done, and look at the beauty that surrounded the venue. I love days like this because although we are on a timeline, there is room to experiment and create our own interpretation.” Nikki of Fancy This explains.

By her side, partner photographer Sarah Gillie was also eager to create some magic. Nikki is no stranger to the Heart of NC Weddings team. Working together since 2016, their partnership blossomed over fun collaboration and countless photo shoots. But this shoot was a bit different. This shoot would host a few firsts for Fancy This.

The day began with hair and makeup by Reign Beauty. Timeless and romantic touches were added to each of the models ready to compliment any dress they’d be wearing over the course of the day. One of these models stands out a bit more as a friend of Nikki, as well as her muse. Nathan Wellman would be the subject of an artistic vision Nikki knew she had to create.

“My favorite part of the day was when I took my one and only photo meant truly for myself. That photo was of Nathan and the makeup brushes. This image was not meant to make headlines for the magazine--however, it was a fabulous social media post when we posted it! Whenever I photograph any type of session, the entire session is dedicated to that client. BUT, I always take ONE photo for myself. It can be completely ridiculous, or soft and sweet--meant only for the client and myself to view. This photo was truly meant for my artistic pleasure, and it was my favorite one from the day.”

This wouldn’t be the only meaningful image created by the dynamic duo. Nestled in a shaded valley near one of the ceremony sites, Nikki captured Nathan as the very first male to wear a dress in Heart of NC Wedding history. There was talk throughout the day in anticipation for these images, and a comment was made that if anyone were to capture these photos, it would be Fancy This. Upon hearing these comments, Nikki shared,

“As someone who is an active ally and supporter of the LGBTQ community, it just makes me feel heard and seen. I think it was said because people notice what you stand for, and this is something that I have and will always stand for.”

Romantic and eclectic dresses took center stage throughout the day. Favorites of Nikki included a ballgown from Dany Tabet’s Zou Bisou collection, worn by Bredetta Huffman and Jimme Huang from Thornbury Brides worn by Pashara Black.

I truly enjoyed photographing Pashira in the white walled space. The ones in that sequence are just so mesmerizing to me, as I legit only had one white wall to produce some magic. These came out ethereal and just delicious.”

As the sun started to set on this September evening, the time had come to capture some golden hour images. Models Eion Dockery and Grace Harrington from UC Models cozied up in front of one of the large pastures available at The Meadows for photos just like this. Behind them, the sun danced through trees as it made way for the moon. Casting a blanket of beautiful haze, Nikki began shooting. Accompanied by enchanting florals from Joneswell Flowers and a ballgown from White of Raleigh, it was here that the cover for the 2023 Heart of NC Wedding magazine would be captured. A simple yet elegant portrait of Grace looking gently into the distance would set the tone for this year’s issue. This honor was made more exciting as it was Nikki’s first ever cover on a magazine. After receiving the news, Nikki was feeling a lot (in a good way!)

Honestly, it was a ball of emotions. I have never been on the cover of any magazine, so to see my work on the cover of my favorite publication- wow, a lot of emotions were felt. I remember when I was younger and I kept telling people that I was going to be a photographer and having those same people scoff at me, only because they didn't think I could be successful. Wow, how the tables turned. I grew up not having as many opportunities as I should have. It was tough. It's just a testament that if I believe in myself, make honest connections, and take pride in my work, I can do great things. I am so happy that I was able to show myself that I can do great things, and showcase true art and soul into my work. It felt good. It truly felt good.”
