A Love to Celebrate Christy and Melissa

There is good and then there is so right

Together, these two women make a striking pair, showcasing the beauty of individuality and celebrating their unique styles. The contrast between the tailored pant suit and the flowing pant jump suit beautifully balances sophistication and artsy charm. The fusion of their outfits represents a harmonious blend of modernity and whimsy, making a statement that love and style know no boundaries.

I had to share about their outfits of choices out of the gate because they are just that good and pair so well together. Their outfit choices are almost as strong as their love.

“ The first time I met Christy and Melissa I was in awe of their relationship. The respect and love they have to each other is palpable” -Courtney, Photographer for Fancy This Photography

A Traditional Venue with Charm

No matter your choice of venue, creating a perfect wedding day is a labor of love. From designing the decor to finding the perfect place, there are so many things to think about that it can be overwhelming. But with careful thought and execution, and some hard work, you can craft a unique and beautiful special day where you and your guests can make lasting memories. With a traditional church wedding, the charm factor only increases. The classic wooden pews, stained glass windows, a grand center aisle, grand arches, add a magical ambiance to the occasion and make for a truly romantic experience.

The little details

Driving an old Ford Mustang for your wedding can definitely add a touch of nostalgia and uniqueness to your special day. The fact that it's from Christy's high school years adds a sentimental value to the car as well!

The Ford Mustang is an iconic American muscle car known for its stylish design and powerful performance. Its classic appearance and vibrant color will surely turn heads and make for some stunning wedding photos. I loved the pop of color it brought to their day and the fun pictures they now have to remember the car and this day forever.

A reception filled with love and friendship

Christy and Melissa opted for an earlier reception with all the same perks, but guests were let out around 7:30! Kind of a genius way to do things, if you ask me! Through the pictures you will see the tight, loving group Christy and Melissa have surrounded themselves with. The love between everyone was unforgiving. Having an early reception meant they didn’t have to serve a whole dinner, but just had little nibbles for everyone to enjoy. The reception was held at the Wilson Arts Center in Wilson, NC and the venue holds great opportunity for any kind of reception or party you are looking for. I will leave their form for rental HERE.

A day to remember

The wedding day was a powerful demonstration of the love emanating from the brides, and the joy shared by all in attendance. That day was a reminder of the great strength of love, and how it binds us all together. Unforgiving love was the theme of the day, and it was a reminder of what is truly important to us. The celebration was a symbol that, no matter what life throws our way, we can remain strong, connected, and loving. As we look back on the day, let us strive to recreate the same sense of love and joy and spread it to our families, friends, and communities. After all, that is the way to make the world a better place.

Cassie & Jess' Walnut Hill Wedding

Rustic Romance at Walnut Hill NC Wedding Venue

Cassaundra Vondrak and Jessica Hirschbuhl tied the knot at Walnut Hill NC wedding venue on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2021. This indoor-outdoor event space is the perfect mix of rustic and modern and is located just 20 minutes away from downtown Raleigh. Cassie and Jess became fast friends with Walnut HIll NC venue owner, Amanda Peoples, throughout the booking process.

“We could not have asked for a better venue or person to be a part of our wedding day,” says Cassie. “We are so grateful to have had our wedding at this beautiful venue, but more importantly, for everyone that was involved in planning our day.”

The Vondrak-Hirschbuhl wedding had a rustic yet modern theme similar to Walnut Hill’s style. Navy, burgundy, burnt orange and copper completed the color palette. Cassie and Jess shared vows beside Walnut Hill’s sparkling pond and fountain. Following the ceremony, guests moseyed over to the front lawn for a sunset cocktail hour.

October Walnut Hill NC Wedding

Cassie and Jess’ reception took place in Walnut Hill’s newly constructed white barn, which can host up to 200 wedding guests. The barn has modern restrooms and an on-site kitchen for a caterer of your choice. Windows along one wall of the barn offer views of the farm and can be opened to create an alfresco cocktail hour or reception area. Walnut Hill couples receive access to tables, linens, chairs, bars and a vintage piano – which Cassie and Jess used as their dessert display table (pictured later in the blog)!

One of my favorite things about Walnut Hill NC wedding venue are the plethora of picturesque backdrops. From the gorgeous getting ready farmhouse, hello wraparound porch, to the checkerboard lawn stones - there are endless photo backdrop options on this 400-acre property. If you’re lucky, you might even get Belted Galloway cows grazing peacefully in the foreground of your wedding photos. Seriously, it’s a NC wedding photographer’s dream venue.

Live, Love, Pitch

Cassie and Jess’ careers in softball coaching brought them together. Jess played Division 1 Softball at Hofstra University in Long Island, New York and Cassie played Division 1 Softball at Long Island University Brooklyn in Brooklyn, New York. Both began coaching after college.

The coaches were recruiting players in June of 2017 at the same softball tournament in Colorado when Jess asked Cassie out to dinner. At the time, Jess coached for East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina and Cassie coached for Columbia University in New York. Although Cassie couldn’t make dinner, she agreed to meet Jess for a fun miniature golf date later that evening. They haven’t gone a single day without talking since.

From the Diamond to Down on One Knee

Jess planned the perfect marriage proposal three years after her first date with Cassie. Due to work, the coaching couple lived two hours apart. Cassie’s boss let her leave work early on Friday, Oct. 23, 2020 so that she could drive to Jess’ house in Greenville, North Carolina for the weekend. Fighting off exhaustion, Cassie gathered up enough energy for a date night. Jess took Cassie out for a romantic dinner at local Italian restaurant, Ninos. Cassie says that Jess must have used the restroom five times during dinner out of nervousness. Jess only uttered one sentence to Cassie over the car ride home. As they stepped inside Jess’ house, Cassie’s jaw dropped.

Rose petals and candles decorated the floor and the couple’s favorite song, “Speechless” by Dan + Shay, played in the background. Jess got down on one knee and asked Cassie to marry her. Cassie said “yes” and friends popped out from behind hiding spots. After the shock settled, Cassie’s best friends rushed through the front door. Jess surprised Cassie by asking them to fly into town and celebrate the engagement. The rest of the weekend was filled with joy and love.

Sentimental Ceremony at Walnut Hill NC Wedding Venue

Cassie and Jess invited friends and family to witness and participate in their wedding ceremony at Walnut Hill. Jess’ nephew, Will Hirschbuhl, successfully played the role of ring bearer. Cassie’s brother, Derek Vondrak, served as officiant and filled the ceremony with his love, humor and wisdom. The brides said “I do” before a gorgeous, geometric wooden arch created by Cassie’s dad. The ceremony was authentic and emotional. Even when Cassie forgot every word she was supposed to repeat after Derek and when Derek forgot to have the brides kiss as wife and wife (spoiler, they kissed anyways).

“[Derek] is a huge role model in our lives and has always been so supportive of our relationship,” shares Cassie. “We wrote our own vows for each other and it was so special for the both of us to be able to share our love in our own words.”

Cassie and Jess released butterflies to represent and honor the people they love who have passed away during their wedding ceremony at Walnut Hill. The brides also reserved a seat in the first row for Jess’ dad who passed away when she was younger. After Jess walked down the aisle escorted by her step dad, Chip, she placed a single rose on the empty chair.

Group Wedding Photos by Fancy This Photography

You might be wondering, how does one NC wedding photographer capture so many beautiful people on the same day? Great question! My talented second shooter and fabulous associate photographer, Sarah Martin, documented Jess’ getting ready portion of the day while I captured Cassie’s. This way, both bridal parties received excellent and equal coverage.

For every wedding that I photograph, I try to memorize all names of the wedding party. It’s a skill that I never knew I had until I tried a few years ago. It’s worth the attempt, because I know that this makes my couples feel special and taken care of. Cassie and Jess’ wedding party was genuine and fun, which makes my job easy.

Fall Wedding Fashion For All

Cassie bought her wedding dress at Swoon Bridal in her hometown of Reno, Nevada. Soft curls and an expertly braided updo by Battle Born Beauty framed Cassie’s natural-glam makeup by Erin Kelly from Reverie Hair Co. Matron of Honor and sister, Allison Ross, and bridesmaids Bethany Want, Tiffany O’Day, Krista Mattice, Madison Zymokowitz, Lauren Walsh and Jen Draovitch looked beautiful in red bridesmaid dresses.

Jess wore a chic, custom made suit from Ventresca's in her hometown of Philadelphia. Her hair looked sophisticated in a sleek updo and a bright boutonniere by Bloom Works Raleigh completed the bridal look. Jess’ Maid of Honor and sister, Julia Hilger, wore a navy blue dress and bridal party members Sara Marino, Tessa Ziemba, Krista Hayes, Rob Hirschbuhl, Andrew Hilger and John Hirschbuhl wore an assortment of elegant navy blue dresses and suits.

After the ceremony, Cassie and Jess dug up a bottle of bourbon that they had buried at Walnut Hill wedding venue for good weather. As wife and wife they took shots, and I took shots on my Nikon d 750 and Nikon d 850 cameras. I loved watching their bourbon-tasting reactions and seeing how excited they were for an amazing reception.

“We know everyone says that their wedding day is the most perfect day there is, but we truly were blessed with our friends, family and entire vendor team. They made our day so special and more than we could have ever asked or dreamed of.” - Cassie Hirschbuhl

Cocktail Hour and Reception at Walnut Hill NC Wedding Venue

Jess and Cassie made guests a college-inspired corn hole set to play at cocktail hour. Personalized corn hole boards were a perfect wedding detail for this competitive couple. Cassie and Jess played corn hole against each other for hours at a local bar on their first date!

Jess’ step dad Chip made a giant, wooden softball scoreboard for a seating chart. Reception tables were decorated by Bloom Works Raleigh with warm wedding flowers, greenery, wheat and pampas grass. Table settings featured classic white and gold dinner plates atop a wicker chargers with an orange napkin, gold silverware and personalized escort card.

Catering Works served guests a delicious meal and for dessert, Cassie and Jess cut into a beautiful cake (also by Catering Works). The couple also ordered donuts and displayed them on a cool board built by Jess’ step dad Chip. Between dancing and tossing the bouquet, the newlyweds posed with friends and family in a photo booth by Dow Oak Events.

Sherry & Cristina | The Power House Wedding in Rocky Mount, NC

Sherry & Cristina

Married at the Power House in Rocky Mount, NC

Sherry and Cristina had a love like none other. They had met each other around 10 years ago, and have been together ever since. Local to the Rocky Mount area, they wanted to have their ceremony close to their roots. They chose the beautiful venue, The Power House, which is nestled right in the heart of Rocky Mount, NC. The day was as beautiful as the night. For the first part of the day I was with Cristina and her mother getting ready. The light from the suite was gorgeous and enveloped Cristina just perfectly. Right after, I met Sherry with all of the bridesmaids and they toasted for a beautiful evening to come.

My favorite part of their day was their first touch. They wanted to keep their wedding traditional in the sense that they would see each other for the first time down the aisle. They decided to do a first touch, which just so happened right at golden hour. Talk to me about some gorgeous sun rays.

Their ceremony happened just as the sun set. It was a site to see with those beautiful full length windows and the dusty shades of blue come through them. The scene was surreal, with beautiful twinkle lights that hung directly over the guests. After the ceremony, both ladies shared in a cake cutting, and guests left with to-go cupcakes (covid style!).

Once this sort of “cocktail” hour was finished, Sherry, Cristina and I headed outside for some night time shots. When Sherry & Cristina talked about their wedding images, they made it clear that they were getting married on a full moon and that they wanted images at night with the moon. This was very sentimental to me, as I know and appreciate the sign of the new/full moon; in its simplest form, it means the start of new beginnings. What better way to show this than by getting married during it?!

Their night ended with drinks and food with their dearest close friends and family at TCB, right down the street from the Power House.

Special thanks to all of the vendors involved!
