Eastern, NC Large Family Session

The Ward Family in Williamston, NC

If there is one thing I absolutely love is the chance to go back “home” to eastern, NC. Ironically, after years of attending NC State, I met a friend who sounded familiar. What does the term sounded mean in regards to this? Well, her accent sounded like mine! I asked her where she was from, and she proceeded to tell me she was from a small town that I’d probably never heard of. I said “try me.” And, there we were, realizing we grew up only 20 minutes from one another and knew the same people. This lady, Courtney, has become such a great friend over the years.

Almost every year I have the privilege of photographing her family; all of them! It is so fun and to be honest they are just a hoot to be around. When working with a large family, I typically like to start the session off by posing all of the members for that pivotal family image. After this main one, I tend to break the families up into their smaller immediate families, and photograph them in sections. This is great for the family as a whole as they receive images of their big family all together, plus have those special images of their immediate family to pair along with the big one.

For this family session we decided to photograph in Courtney’s front yard in Williamston, NC. She and her husband, Danuel, recently bought a house and its a stunner! Their front yard was the perfect place for this.
