Kate & Paul’s Mini-Mony

and their Burying of the Bourbon at Lavender Oaks Farm

Kate & Paul were and are the sweetest couple that I have had the privilege of documenting. They were originally planning their 2020 wedding at their venue Lavender Oaks Farm in Chapel Hill, NC. 2020 had other plans, and they made the hard decision to postpone their big celebration and instead had the sweetest little ceremony at an AirBnb in Durham, NC. Dont worry, their big shindig is still in the works for next year at Lavender Oaks Farm!

I had a sort of split day affair with these two. In the morning we met at Lavender Oaks Farm and Kate & Paul buried their custom built box of bourbon. If you are not familiar with the tradition of burying the bourbon, its basically a Southern folklore that says if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site where the couple is to be married it won't rain on their wedding day. Ironically, on this day, it was raining. The fun thing with postponing your wedding is that you can actually do fun stuff like this! Paul custom built this bourbon box and wow! It was the prettiest thing! High fives to Paul for the detail in it!

Later that afternoon, I met these two at their Airbnb. Yall, this Airbnb was house goals! The decor inside gave me so much inspiration. And, to top it off, it had this beautiful wrap around porch that Kate and Paul decided to tie the knot on. Their ceremony was officiated by Kate’s dad and was even livestreamed via zoom. During their ceremony, Kate’s mom gave them mead to drink from an heirloom vessel. For the exchanging of the rings, Kate’s niece was right up there with them and gave the biggest eyes of love as Kate and Paul exchanged wedding rings. It was a touching ceremony. I feel honored to have witnessed it.

Congratulations, Kate & Paul! I am excited to celebrate with you next year!

Special thanks to these vendors!

Ariel & Zackary’s Elopement

A covid-19 wedding story that took place in a backyard somewhere in Chapel Hill, NC

Friends, I have the absolute best wedding story hitting the blog right now. The best part? The couple, Ariel and Zackary, will have a one of a kind wedding story unlike any other. Fancies, get ready to see some pretty.

Ariel and Zackary were set to marry at a venue in Raleigh, NC. With the stay at home orders from the governor going in to effect that same weekend as their wedding date, they knew that they could not have the wedding that they previously planned. Instead of cancelling, they decided to postpone their celebration (to this December!), and married on their original date elopement style in a friends backyard in Chapel Hill, NC. Since this ceremony was set to take place in a backyard, the newlywed couple thought it was prime time to bring their dearly beloved cat—Kitty Purry. Yes, if you were wondering about how amazing it felt for me to photograph a wedding with a cat—just know, it was amazing in all ways you could imagine.

Ariel and Zackary tied the knot overlooking a large pool and in front of the prettiest pine trees that North Carolina could boast. Their florals were provided by Rabbit Foot Florals and to be honest, they provided the sweetest touch as the couples backdrop. We all were socially distant, and the best part was that Ariel and Zackary’s family FaceTimed the entire ceremony (thanks to the lovely Officiant’s husband!).

We are all in this together. And, if this coronavirus has taught us anything, its the fact that love prevails.

Special thanks to Sarah P. for putting together an amazing ceremony space and surprise for the couple.

PS In case you were wondering where you may have seen these wedding photographs before…Ariel and Zackary’s wedding was recently featured in the Heart of NC Weddings blog!
