Salisbury North Carolina Wedding at The Meroney Theater on New Year’s Eve

Friday, December 31, 2021, New Year’s Eve in Salisbury, North Carolina. The air was filled with magic and romance as Alex and Danielle strolled down Main Street in their wedding attire. Cars honked and locals cheered along the walk to The Meroney Theater. It was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the low 70s - perfect for a Salisbury, North Carolina wedding.

Fancy This Photography’s own Sarah Martin, documented this New Year’s Eve wedding. In addition to Sarah, Joshua Komer contributed as second shooter. Fancy This Photography can capture a more complete narrative of the day when multiple photographers are present. One person can’t be multiple places at once! We like to give our couples wedding image galleries composed of candid moments from all the best angles.

This was Sarah’s first time photographing a wedding on New Year’s Eve. Alex and Danielle made the experience incredibly enjoyable. They truly embraced the New Year’s Eve theme. Party hats, gold confetti, horns and disco balls made for fun and fabulous photo props at The Meroney Theater. Sarah enjoyed celebrating with a wonderful couple and would not hesitate to shoot another holiday wedding again. Anybody want to say “I do” on Saturday, December 31, 2022?

Getting Ready Backstage - Salisbury North Carolina Wedding at The Meroney Theater

Alex and Danielle don’t like to stick to the script. In addition to choosing a non-traditional wedding date and venue, they also got ready together! This was Sarah’s first time photographing a couple who got dressed and ready together. The venue elevated the experience for everyone. The Meroney Theater’s low ceilings and vanity mirror lights made it felt as if everyone was getting dressed for a show! Alex and Danielle were able to relax and share the excitement of seeing each other fully dressed in wedding attire for the first time.

Wedding Photos in Historic Downtown Salisbury

Fancy This Photographer Sarah Martin used a Sony A7RIII to capture Alex and Danielle’s Salisbury North Carolina wedding. One of Sarah’s favorite moments from the day was capturing the couple and their two puppies in historic Downtown. Locals were excited to see the bride and groom and cheered for them in sweet small-town style. It felt like the final scenes of a romantic-comedy movie. Alex rocked a classic black and white tuxedo and bow tie. Danielle’s wedding dress was the perfect combination of glam sparkles and soft tulle.

They stole the show at The Meroney Theater.

Historic downtown Salisbury is a wedding photographer’s wonderland. There are endless backdrops for timeless couple portraits. In these images, you’ll see church steeples and red brick warehouse buildings pierce the winter sky. Murals of the city’s past and delicately carved doorways are all beautifully preserved.

Alex and Danielle lead us to Bell Tower Green Park, located in the heart of historic downtown. The park features green spaces, an amphitheater, gazebos, gardens and of course, the Bell Tower. All of this sits across from the First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury. We had a blast posing with puppies and disco balls at every local landmark. With our eye on the clock, we made our way back to The Meroney Theater just in time for the show– er, I mean, the wedding ceremony!

Alex and Danielle’s wedding headlined The Meroney Theater’s entrance that New Year’s Eve. The retro entrance sign made for whimsical wedding portraits that tell a story. When it was time, the bride and groom walked down the theater’s aisles to say “I do” on stage. A red velvet curtain and twinkle lights hung behind them on stage. Alex and Danielle kissed as husband and wife in a shower of gold confetti. Afterward, friends and family joined the couple on stage for one fantastic final photo.

Q: Any advice on photographing confetti moments?

A: “Timing is key! What really helped, was coordinating with the couple exactly on when they planned to set off the confetti cannons.” - Sarah Martin, Fancy This Photography

When you think about it, theaters make excellent wedding venues. The venue comes with built-in seating, sound systems, lighting, heating and air-conditioning, restrooms and unmatched ambiance. At the core, weddings are performances - rituals of love and promise. Why not share vows on a stage in front of all your friends and family? Sleep peacefully knowing that guests will clearly see and hear every moment of the wedding ceremony from start to finish.

The Meroney Theater in historic downtown Salisbury is an incredible wedding venue. It even has a third-floor cocktail hour or reception space.

Photographing The Meroney Theater came with its own unique challenges.

Because the theater is such a large and dark event space, it’s essential that couples who get married here hire a professional photographer with extensive knowledge of lighting and how it works. Sarah was able to expertly place off-camera lights in locations that gave each scene from the wedding day a natural appearance.

A non-traditional wedding venue can give couples and photographers freedom to tell their own story. Non-traditional event spaces typically allow for more creative expression when it comes to telling a story that is personal to the couple.
